RAtheMC

RAtheMC, born Rashea Faulkner on April 9, 1986, would keep close to the music even when there was nothing else around. Northeast DC was the home to young RA until she was 10, moving to Largo, MD but still maintaining school in the district.

Her singing career took off at an early age, growing up in the choir and spending time with an aunt who shared with RA other people who were living their dreams of entertaining. A trip to the movies with Aunt Faye was the determinant to do something new.

Lauryn Hill’s character in Sister Act 2 sparked the notion for RA to try a hand at rap. Taking her time and developing through melodies, she evolved from spoken word to dropping a rhyme at a talent show at the age of 13. And literally, it’s been a wrap ever since. The classic entity of RA has embraced music, listening to the likes of P Funk, Donny Hathaway, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.

At the same time, her crude, yet organic style displays her roots in tunes from Naughty by Nature, The Fugees, Notorious B.I.G. and Jay-Z.

With an ear for listening and an eye for creativity, the vivid personality of RAtheMC shines through her fashion persona and is clearly defined as her own. An artist of such rareness, it would be safe to say she is strange. After having signed with highly demanded DC-rooted producer Judah, the Strange Music label became the house that harbored exceptional rhymes and clever beats. RA’s biggest collaboration to date with DJ Premiere for the track “Anything You Like” circulates the web like an orbit. And with a strong team of committed people on her team, RAtheMC is as close to touching the universe as she is to being the girl next door
